The Department of History was established in 1958 when the college was opened. The Department is the first institute to start an Under-Graduate course in History in Mizoram. At present the faculty consists of 1-Professor, 1-Associate Professors and 3-Assistant Professors and 1-Guest Faculty. The academic condition in terms of quality of faculty and learning transfer process is healthy and adequate. All the teachers have research works to their credits, 2 has obtained Ph.D., 3  have M.Phil degrees, and 2 are still working for Ph.D.

Student profile – entry level competencies, socio-economic status, language proficiency etc.:

Students are admitted on merit basis. Students come from both urban and rural backgrounds, from low and middle income group. Students are mostly proficient in regional language. They also have workable knowledge of English. The subject is preferred equally by both the genders.

At present, we have 45-1st semester students, 40-3rd semester  students and 33-5th semester students
